چکیده

A new baseband signal processing method for compensating frequency shift in differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) systems is introduced. This method consists of a signal processor for the initial acquisition of frequency shift and a simple adaptive equalizer for tracking. The former is based on the observation that the effect of frequency shift can be eliminated by using boundary values of the received baseband signal between symbol periods. The latter is a single tap equalizer employing the least mean-square (LMS) adaptation algorithm. Computer simulation results demonstrate that the proposed frequency shift compensation technique outperforms existing methods, and works well for a wide range of frequency shift.

AbsrrucfDifferential detection of phase-shift keying signals entails the ability to establish a stable phase reference based on previous symhol(s). In low bit-rate communications strongly affected by Doppler effect, like those making use of non-geostationary satellites, significant carrier phase drifts may occur within the symbol interval; thus, large irreducible error floors result if the Dopp...

Dirty RF: A New Paradigm InvitedPaper

The implementation challenge for new low-cost low-power wireless modem transceivers has continuously been growing with increased modem performance, bandwidth, and carrier frequency. Up to now we have been designing transceivers in a way that we are able to keep the analog (RF) problem domain widely separated from the digital signal processing design. However, with today’s deep sub-micron techno...

Baseband Carrier Recovery and Phase Tracking as a Doppler Compensation Technique for a zero-IF SDR

Compensating for the Doppler effect is a significant problem in low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications. The effect of Doppler shift is that the baseband carrier signal is shifted in the frequency spectrum. This paper presents the design and analysis of a two-stage baseband carrier recovery algorithm for software-defined radio (SDR). The first-stage frequency-locked loop calculates a coa...
